Topeak Super Tourist Tubular Bicycle Trunk Rack with Spring Review

The spring is pointless. I've never understood how it might be useful. It could hold a newspaper down on your commute, or a jacket, but for anything else you have to carry, it doesn't do anything to help out. I eventually used a reciprocating saw (AKA Sawzall) to remove it. The spring also gets in the way of some pannier clips.

Other than that, the quality of the rack is good. My favorite feature of the rack is the MTX attachment system. This is really a simple rail that allows Topeak-produced accessories to be locked in place. One of those accessories is this: Topeak MTX Rear Bicycle Basket, which I also reviewed.

The purpose of the far back, vertical third support rail is to provide support for a large array of panniers of various sizes.

I lost my old left crank-arm as a result of not tightening it down properly and also putting my cadence meter in a place where it would regularly come into contact with the magnet zip-tied to the crank. I ordered this new crank arm and very tightly bolted it to the end of the GXP cylinder with a little bit of blue threadlock and now all is well. No loose cranks, no lost contact. Docked one star because I wish they offered a choice of colors as I now have a silver right crank and a black left crank, but function beats style any day.
