I purchased a pair of the Pearl Izumi men's pro shorts after rave recommendations of a friend. I must own at least 8 pairs of the lesser model P-I shorts and have worn only P-I shorts for years. I wore the pro shorts (new out of the package) for the first time on a 65 mile ride and was surprised to see redness and chaffing on my inner thigh after the ride. Upon inspection of the shorts, it appeared that the edge of the red pad material was thicker than my other PI shorts (not tapered down) and was somewhat sharp. After a washing and subsequent use, I have not had the chaffing problem again. Otherwise, I see no real advantage in the pro shorts over the "regular" models. Save your money and buy the lesser models.
