Infini Wukong Taillight (Black) Review

A few months ago, I picked up a pair of these bicycle lights from one of my local bike shops for about $15 each before tax. I got one black headlight (which produces white light) and one red taillight (which produces red light). They are easy to attach almost anywhere. (I generally put the headlight near my handlebar stem and the taillight on the back of my rack's trunk bag; if I didn't have a trunk bag or a rack it could go right on my saddle post.) They are also very easy to remove as well as being very, very small. If I park and lock my bike at night, I can remove them in seconds and just stick them in my pocket so they aren't theft magnets sitting on my locked bike. If I'm riding during the day, I can keep them in my rack's trunk bag or, again, in my pocket until and unless I need them later.

I was afraid that the rubber straps would slip off, but that hasn't happened and they do seem quite grippy on those little locktabs. I was also afraid that the straps would break eventually since I stretch them around various bits of my bike and on and off their little locktabs and generally abuse them quite a bit, but again that hasn't happened.

I haven't yet ridden with them in the rain. While I doubt they're completely waterproof, the housing is fairly tight so unless you ride through a waterfall they'll most likely keep working without any damage and without accumulating moisture inside the battery compartment.

Each one takes a pair of those flat, round "wristwatch" batteries (CR-2032). The batteries were included with the units I purchased from my local bike shop. I have no idea if the ones sold by Amazon include the batteries, but if I had to guess, it will be the same packaging so the batteries are probably included. Replacement batteries aren't terribly expensive, although it is kind of a shame that rechargeables in this size aren't available.

Press the top of the housing once and the unit comes on in "flash" mode. Press the top again and the unit changes to "steady" mode. Press it a third time and the unit switches off. If memory serves, the white headlight is rated for 50 hours in steady mode and 100 hours in flashing mode while the red taillight is rated for 120 hours in steady mode and 240 hours in flashing mode - something about the differently-colored LEDs (white for headlights, red for taillights) drawing different amounts of power. They're both really, really bright. A pair of headlights would work well, one in flashing mode facing horizontal for visibility and one in steady mode facing well down to illuminate the road to watch for obstacles. I plan to get a second headlight unit for this reason.

Don't get put off by the small size or colorful housing; these things are not toys. While you can get much more substantial-looking lights for the same price, the size and ease of use and the ability to quickly remove and remount these lights makes them a fair purchase. If they weren't as bright as they are, I'd purchase better lights, but these more than get the job done both for making me visible to motorists and lighting the road in front of me. I was looking for these things here hoping to save a few dollars to equip some other bikes as well as a second headlight for my main bike, but the prices are about the same as at my local bike shop; less for the quirkier colors, more for the sedate colors I prefer. So I'll probably just head to the bike shop for the additional units.
