Ive tried several solutions to keeping my tools, etc. in my bottle cage. Most have trouble keeping their lids on during aggressive trail riding. This SKS Cagebox is good. The lid stays on well and there's a lot of space in the bottle. I carry an inner tube, a patch kit, an inflator, two CO2 cartridges, a derailleur hanger, a and multitool; there's space for all that with some to spare. I don't like the orange lid, but that's vanity.
I don't like to carry my stuff in my pack because it adds extra weight between me and my saddle. I just stuff the Cagebox and leave it on the bike. It's always there when I need it. I put a toe-clip strap around the cage to keep the Cagebox secure.
