Sta-Tru Silver Alloy Road 6-7 Speed Freewheel Hub Rear Wheel (700X25) Review

I bought this 700c x 25 wheel to replace the wheel on a department store bicycle. I was thus looking for the cheapest wheel possible.

First, Amazon's description is not correct. It says "quick release" axle, but this is really a "bolt-on" axle. The two are not interchangeable so make sure it fits for your bike. Based on the product serial number (RW7025BO, where BO = bolt on) and the product picture, I knew that it is a bolt-on wheel and that Amazon just had the wrong information.

The hub is a Quando hub with a nice machined-like finish. The rim is an Alex R15F rim, single-walled. Note that no reflectors are included with the wheel, and no rim tape applied. The wheel was true out of the box with no spoke adjustments needed. The wheel was also dished correctly such that it was perfectly center in my bike when I mounted the wheel.

Sta Tru wheels are assembled in the USA, and trued by computers / machines.

I was able to quickly put on my old freewheel, put the tire and tube on, center the wheel on the axle, and mount it on my bike. Overall, very good quality and fit.

One thing to note - this does not have one of those "deep v" or "aero" rims like on fixed gear bikes these days. It's a simple replacement traditional wheel.
