Jagwire Ripcord DIY MTB Derailleur Kit, Black Carbon Review

I needed to replace the stock cable and housing after swapping to some new bars and a new stem on my MTB. The guys that rigged my bike when new really didn't allow much room for change - I think it was a really poor job actually but regardless, I needed to put new cables and housings on. I selected Jagwire Ripcord cause it was a step up over the stock stuff, and I had used lots of other Jagwire product in the past.

The cabling was very straight forward, easy even. The Ripcord housing is a pleasure to work with being easy to trim, meaning it cuts very clean leaving no "edges" and the ends clean up nice for the cable. The cable is teflon coated which really showed up in smoother shifts. I thought it would be better for corrosion resistance and it may but the smoothness was a nice added bonus. Jagwire provides a generous assortment of cable ends, really nice plastic liner and cable/ferrules for use with the liner plus a few options in rubber cable boots.

Very good stuff and just about all I plan to use in any future cabling upgrades. You should know that there are a couple of different versions of packaging for the DIY Derailleur kit. The older version only has 1800' of housing total while the newer version has 2300' to better accommodate newer installs where full housing is used instead of the partial housing and liner. The packaging as shown in the pic on amazon is the new one, the older is very different and in more of a blister package. Choose accordingly. Soon, Jagwire says, the older stuff will be out of the system fully replaced by the new but there is some old out there. Oh, and the decal they provide is nice too.
