OnGuard 5000 Brute LS 4/6" U-Lock Review

This thing is a motorcycle lock, but it works as a bike lock too. I'm on a college campus where bike theft is pretty common and I'm confident no one will even try to get through this thing. The U-lock is about twice as thick as every other one I've seen and I can usually fit the front tire and the frame in when I hook my bike up to a rack. It feels very safe and sturdy.
The only reason I took a star away is that it is pretty big and heavy to carry in a backpack if I have to take a textbook to class.
also it did come with a way to attach the lock to your frame while you're riding but I don't use it, I've always heard those things are flimsy anyway.

I have a really nice bike. I don't ever leave it stored outside for long periods of time. Either it is safely inside my garage, or inside my home, or I am riding it. Occasionally though, I want to park it outside very briefly while I go in to grab a coffee somewhere, or an energy bar. This lock is perfect for my needs because it weighs almost nothing, and easily fits into my small under-saddle bag...the only bag I have on my bike.

Yes, one could cut through the cable on this lock with a big set of wire clippers. Where I live, most people aren't walking around with those. This lock is perfect for stopping casual and opportunistic thieves from riding off on my pride and joy. It won't stop the professional thieves, but let's be honest, there are few practical bike locks out there that will stop a guy that makes his living stealing bikes.

This lock is incredibly convenient, well built, small, and easy to use. The cable is very flexible, and coated in clear vinyl so it won't scratch your finish. Also, the combination is user-selectable and very easy to set and rest.

I highly recommend this product if you are looking for the type of light-duty protection discussed above.

Since the ideal crank length is 21% of your inseam, this was the right length for me. This is the only reasonably priced option for a correct crank that won't damage my knees. I put these on two bikes so far. I only wish that they also were available in a 130BCD so I could use them on my ebikes which require much larger chain rings. The finish is tough and has not chipped, the precision is great in that they fit my chain rings and crank snugly. I have no complaints at all and am grateful that they are available at such a reasonable price.

I purchased a pair of the Pearl Izumi men's pro shorts after rave recommendations of a friend. I must own at least 8 pairs of the lesser model P-I shorts and have worn only P-I shorts for years. I wore the pro shorts (new out of the package) for the first time on a 65 mile ride and was surprised to see redness and chaffing on my inner thigh after the ride. Upon inspection of the shorts, it appeared that the edge of the red pad material was thicker than my other PI shorts (not tapered down) and was somewhat sharp. After a washing and subsequent use, I have not had the chaffing problem again. Otherwise, I see no real advantage in the pro shorts over the "regular" models. Save your money and buy the lesser models.
