Abus Locks 1385 Key Tressor Chain Lock (Black, 110cm) Review

I live in Cleveland, so it's not a huge city and most of the criminal aspect is made up of run of the mill junkies, not professional bike thieves. I really love my bike though, and wanted to protect it - so far so good with this lock. It is of a good size weight and I like the combination aspect as I guarantee I would lose the key.
Would I leave my bike overnight on a busy street in a bad neighborhood with this lock on? Well, no - but I wouldn't do that anyway. Would I trust this lock to take my bike safely through a long afternoon of brunch or a night out at the bars? I most definitely would. This is going to more than deter the average opportunist type jerk who might steal a bike.

***One thing - mine did not come with instructions as to how to change the pin for the lock, but a quick google search led me to some instructions.

Thought my old chainring (same brand and model) had another chain in it, but it didn't. New chain on a new cog set skipped and jumped, so a replacement became imminent. Found this on Amazon and got it in a few days. Replacement was easy so now I'm hopefully looking forward to another three years CX riding (winter training and commute).

Not sure what to say about product quality - I've never worn out a chainring that fast, but on the other hand it has been abused quite badly by many a muddy rides.

The Amazon product description indicates 10 speed compability, but I'm using it on a 9 speed system without any issues. In fact it looked just like the 9 speed it replaced.

Electra Ticino Waxed Canvas Pannier for Left Side (Brown) Review

I love these panniers. They are light, well balanced and while they are narrow,they can carry a load! I ride a Linus Roadster, and they compliment the look of the bike while still being highly functional. They sit nicely balanced on the rack too. With them on, I forget just how much I am hauling. with the cutouts and how they sit,, they are also never in the way of my pedaling.

These panniers are really versatile, easy to clip on and easier to carry than a lot of panniers because they are narrower. But you can still put a lot in them - you can even extend their height. Underneath the flap, the tops roll down and snap together to keep water out, but you can keep these up and unrolled and then load higher too (e.g., if you head to the store and come back with a bunch of groceries.

They are smart looking too. I get many spontaneous compliments on them. A single pannier wouldn't look crazy if you were bringing it into a meeting or something, although it is obviously a bike bag.

My biggest concern is their durability. The build quality does not seem as lasting as I would hope, although it does seem consistent with their price point. (tTese are not $250 a piece type panniers.) Some examples of my durability concerns: the 'leather' parts are actually stretchy vinyl or a plastic, and the clips for the rack don't seem like something that will last a long time. I anticipate having to eventually replace the straps with leather ones, if the rest of the bag lasts.

Being in Puddletown, I also don't know just how well they'll hold up with Portland's heavy rains. But that's my deal. these are waxed canvas and marketed as weather resistant, not waterproof. I went ahead and purchased some pannier covers separately on Amazon to put on them for the downpours; I think they would do fine in a lighter rain. I have more piece of mind with the covers on, although even with them on, the back/wheel side of the pannier still gets a bit wet from the wheel splash in a heavy rain.

I will also eventually mod them to add a clip for a shoulder harness. There are places you could add a zip tie or a D ring but it does not come with a pre-set up spot or with a shoulder harness.

I commute to work in Pdx. In them, I carry:
- tool kit, pump
- shoulder harness for panniers
- work clothes
- rain gear - jacket, pants, shoe covers
- large breakfast / lunch box
- 18oz steal water bottle
- 22 oz steal coffee bottle
- iPad, man purse (murse, anyone?)
- pannier covers
- sometimes, extra shoes or suit jacket for work or the odd errand item
- there is still room!

I have gone to the store with them for groceries too and they did very well.

PROS
- nice design/aesthetic
- nice lining
- price to build is reasonable (in th overpriced world of panniers)
- light weight
- narrow but robust cargo capacity
- Wx resistance

CONS:
- durability
- vinyl vs. leather parts
- built to last? Maybe not for a hardcore daily commuter - time will tell!
- lack of shoulder harness and place to clip it

Overall, For the price I would absolutely buy these again. I love them, I just don't know how well they'll do over time - but that depends on you and your use for them too.

My sons bike seat had torn and exposed the foam and I dont want to get a new bike until he is done learning how to ride without training wheels. I got him this seat to buy us more time. Its a cute seat cover, nice padding, etc. However the fit is a little tight. I had to take the old foam off his seat in order to get it to fit which involved removing some staples with a plyer. All in all, a little too much work for what should have been a simple slide on and cinch up. Im not sure I would buy it again but it is cute, the design is bright and the padding is good.

Good: Arrived a week ahead of schedule.

Bad: Metal surface easily scratched; came wrapped in bubblewrap but there are already two scratches in the paint. The lever for ringing the bell is a bit tight, especially for a child to use, and the sound is more grating than ringing. Would not buy again. The helmet is awesome, super light, you can barely feel it it your head, the padding on the inside is lovely, feels much nicer on the skin then foam. My only problem with it is that I have a small head(about 54cm) and the helmet is a bit big for me... I wish they made them in different sizes. Apart from that, I am super happy!
